CopyShot Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 September 2026
CopyShot Phone and CopyShot Mac are provided by ShotBuffet, a registered Finnish sole trader business (Business ID 2016553-1), based in Espoo, Finland (“we”, “us”). ShotBuffet is responsible for personal information it handles for customer support. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
CopyShot captures photos on your iPhone and transfers them to a paired Mac. It does not require a CopyShot account. The apps do not upload your photo library to ShotBuffet, an advertising service, or an AI service. Information you send to us for support is handled separately, as described below.
Photos and information on your devices
CopyShot processes photos and document images on your devices. It stores drafts and outgoing photos on the iPhone so work can survive interruptions. Received photos are stored in the library folder selected by the Mac user. Library information can include filenames, batch labels, capture and receipt times, page order, device identifiers, and records used to organize photos and recover interrupted transfers.
The apps also store settings, prompt templates, and pairing information. Pairing uses device names, device identifiers, public keys, and authorization credentials to recognize devices and control transfers. Private signing keys and pairing secrets are kept in the device keychain. Nearby discovery can expose a Mac’s name on the local network, and pairing exchanges device information before pairing is completed.
Transfers between paired devices use encrypted connections over the local network. Photos sent to someone else’s Mac become available to that Mac’s user and anyone with access to the destination folder. Unpairing stops future authorized transfers; it does not recall photos already received.
Permissions and destinations you control
CopyShot requests camera access to capture images and scan pairing codes, and local-network access to discover and communicate with the companion app. Save to Photos requests permission to add selected images to your photo library; it does not request access to browse your existing Photos library. The Mac app asks you to select its library folder.
The Mac’s automatic clipboard setting is on by default and can be switched off. Clipboard contents and files you paste, drag, or share into another app are handled by that app. CopyShot does not itself submit your images or prompt text to an AI service.
If you select an iCloud or another synchronized folder, the storage provider may upload its contents. Save to Photos may also result in synchronization through iCloud Photos. System backup or clipboard-sharing features may create additional copies. Those services operate under their own settings and privacy policies. CopyShot’s storage-status indicator cannot detect every synchronization tool.
You can change app permissions in iOS or macOS Settings. Denying or revoking a permission prevents the features that require it from working.
Support information
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and attachments. Screenshots, attachments, and diagnostics may contain personal information. Please include only what is needed to explain the issue.
We use this information to answer support requests, diagnose problems, and improve CopyShot. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. The apps contain no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Retention and deletion
On the phone, drafts remain until sent or deleted. Outgoing photo bytes are released after the Mac acknowledges the complete batch. Mac library files remain under the library owner’s control. Mac deletion uses the system Trash, and recovery records, retained originals, staging files, and index backups may remain separately from visible photos. Removing an app is not a promise that all library files, keychain records, backups, or exported copies are erased.
For permanent removal, manage the copies in the Mac library, system Trash, Photos, and any backup or synchronization service you use. Removing a pairing does not delete received photos. We cannot remotely erase files held only on your devices or on another recipient’s Mac.
We delete identifiable support correspondence, attachments, and diagnostics you send to ShotBuffet within 12 months after the associated request or issue is closed, unless a specific legal obligation or unresolved dispute requires longer retention.
Service providers and processing grounds
We use Google Workspace to receive, store, and respond to support emails, including attachments you send to [email protected]. Identifiable customer messages and attachments remain in Google Workspace. We use GitHub to track issues and OpenAI Codex to help troubleshoot, but send them only anonymized issue descriptions and examples that do not identify you. We do not send original customer messages, screenshots, attachments, or identifiable diagnostics to those services. Access to personal information we hold is limited to people and providers who need it for the purposes above. We may disclose information where required by law.
Our legitimate interests in supporting users and fixing defects are the basis for processing support information, subject to individuals’ rights. Processing required to meet a specific legal obligation relies on that obligation. Device permission grants control app access; they do not by themselves establish the legal basis for all processing.
Public support website
Our public support and privacy pages are part of shotbuffet.fi, hosted using DigitalOcean. Your browser connects to our hosting provider to load these pages and their images and styles. Your IP address and request information are available to the hosting infrastructure as part of serving the website. We do not add advertising, analytics scripts, tracking cookies, or a customer upload form to these pages. Clicking an email link opens your email application; it does not send a message until you choose to send it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on applicable law and the processing involved, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of personal information we hold, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact [email protected] to make a request.
You may complain to your local data-protection authority. In Finland, this includes the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman. Apple provides controls for information it holds through Apple Data and Privacy.
Changes
We will update this policy when relevant practices change and identify the effective date. Material changes will be communicated through the app or this website.
